Itchy scalps, also known as scalp pruritus, are a common issue that can cause annoying symptoms like scratching and discomfort.
Itchy scalps are sometimes accompanied by visual indicators like scabbed or flaking skin. Your scalp may itch without any skin changes at other times.
What causes itchiness on the scalp?

Dandruff Seborrheic dermatitis, also known as dandruff, is the most prevalent cause of itchy scalp. The condition is known as cradle cap or crib cap in infants.

The scalp and face are common sites for this form of dermatitis because they contain sebaceous or oil-secreting glands.
You may encounter the following symptoms if your glands become inflamed, you may experience:
• itching
• flaking
• flushed skin
• Scales that are yellow or white.

While the actual etiology of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown, several possible reasons include:
• a yeast infection on the skin
• seasonal variations
• stress, or hormonal fluctuations.

Another reason Itchy scalp could be the result of a sensitive scalp. It can, however, signal an underlying medical issue.

• roofing shingles (herpes zoster) medication-induced allergic responses

• contact dermatitis, or irritation caused by coming into contact with something on your scalp, such as a new shampoo
